Weekly Report 4

Last Week’s Summary: (14 to 19 September 2015)

It had been long week for the students this time as we had a fun-filled working Saturday where they received an opportunity to meet one of the members from ‘Blue Cross’- an organization which works for the welfare and safety of animals who guided them to save animals and educated to rescue them from danger, they also got an opportunity to meet the two lovely dogs of Dr.Geoff after the session.  They were two more members from another association who educated our students on bio-diversity and about saving and protecting the bird species. Post lunch, we celebrated the ‘Service Day’ with our support staff- gardeners and house-keeping. The students were very happy to help these two departments through various activities in different areas of the school.

During the week, students presented their understanding about the differences and similarities about the changes in the transport system over a period of time, with the help of a T-chart or a Venn diagram. They further inquired into how these changes have impacted the environment through resource books, iPads and watching videos (in groups). They also watched videos on the most prevalent/highly used transport in major cities like London, Hong Kong and Kolkata to understand the impact of these transport systems in people’s lives.

Students were taken to a field trip for a train ride from ‘Nampally-Hyderabad’ railway station to ‘Falaknuma’ station. We also visited the Sudha Cars Museum. All the students and teachers had a wonderful time exploring about how the railways work and the different features related to the same. Also it was fascinating to watch the different cars and bikes in the museum which had a lot of creativity and the students were able to connect and relate with the functions and features of those transport systems.

Students also sorted the information from the survey they conducted over the weekend, in order to find out the connection between the changing needs for the transport systems and its impact on the environment with the help of tally marks (Maths integration). Students worked in centres in order to understand and identify the different shapes that are used in making different transport systems. They used different resources in each centre in order to create those shapes. Further they practised two digit addition with the help of various resources like abacus, beads, resource books and base ten blocks. They have continuous practice on addition using ten quick questions.

Students continued to work on their writing process and received a feedback on their stories by their peers and teachers, the final draft of which they should be able to publish. They are also working on the stories of their guided writing simultaneously, conducted by Ms.Alison. We have also begun with our ‘Author Study’ for this year with Ms. Latha’s help and guidance. The students were introduced to their author - Julia Donaldson. A formal writing assessment was also conducted for the students this week.

Students also celebrated ‘International Dot Day’ on Tuesday, the 15 of September 2015, which was a successful event where all the students had fun exploring their own creativity.
