Celebrations and Summary

Last two weeks had been both hectic and fun-loving week for all of us. Grade 2 students were busy celebrating the festival of Diwali and preparing for the talent show on the children's day along with the learning engagements in different subjects. They have been introduced to two new concepts in Maths which is data handling and symmetry. They have learnt to present data through graphical representations and have tried to figure out symmetry around them.

Students learning the graphical representation of their data that they collected. They learnt two types of graphs- Bar and Line Graphs.
Students also went to the 'Science Lab' to explore the different parts of the plant under magnifying glasses and microscopes. They observed the transverse section of a stem, onion peels and cells of a leaf under a microscope. They also observed the germination of seeds through a 3 D slide.

Diwali Celebration through painting of diyas in the art class and the students watched videos. Students also discussed and wrote about how different people celebrate this festival during their guided writing sessions.






The limelight of the previous week was the 'Children's Day Celebration' for the students and teachers. All of us had great time watching the talents of the 'Junior School Students' performing various acts like dance, playing musical instruments, singing, magic shows, story telling and so on. Another attraction of the celebration was the magical show and the carnival arranged for the students where they were engaged in the jumping castle, balloon making, sugar candy stall and tattoo making.





All in all we have had a 'Fun-Learning' time :)

In English , students prepared a class story book for the library. They came up with a horror story and named it "The lost ball". They all contributed equally. They wrote the story and illustrated it. The final outcome was AWESOME :) In Guided writing, students continued with letter writing. They wrote a letter to their parents asking them to attend the PTM.  Students were asked to write a small story with a beginning, middle and end and draw pictures in a template. In Math , students did data analysis on culture. As a whole class, they formulated 4 questions. Then they were divided into 4 groups and collected information from various JS classes. They sorted their data with their friends and plotted bar graphs individually in their Math notebook. Finally they plotted the bar graph in their group. November 7 - 12

Dear Parents, We have successfully completed another week and our second unit of inquiry. Students loved doing varied experiments during this unit and learnt a lot about the properties of different materials, their changes and application in real life. I hope you all had a great time with your kids. Its nice to come back. Summer is here. Please send cap/umbrella with your kid everyday.  This week in UOI , we discussed about the sources of light as a whole class. They were shown various videos on light and brainstormed it individually in their UOI notebook.  Students were paired up and shown various pictures and they had to discuss with their respective partner whether that object was a source of light or not. They learnt about luminous and non-luminous objects. The teacher showed the students objects through which light can, cannot and partially pass like a transparent sheet, a book and a tissue paper using a torch. Students were introduced to opaque, transparent and translucent objects through this simple experiment.  We discussed about the role of light in vision.
